Learn how to take care of your theme park guests

As a Park Manager it’s your job, amongst other things, to keep your guests happy! To build the ultimate 5-star water and theme park, you’ll have to listen to what they need, want and feel.

In this beginner’s guide, we’ll look at guest needs, moods and thoughts, as well as give an overview of how to manage preferences so everyone can have an amazing time at your park!

Guest Needs

No two guests are the same!

In Planet Coaster 2, every guest has their own Needs you’ll have to manage and fulfil during their stay. As Park Manager, you have the power at your fingertips to build the perfect day for each of them if you can keep their needs satisfied.

These guest Needs are easy to track because of their handy colour-coding, allowing you to see what requires attention at a glance – you’ll feel like an expert Park Manager in no time!

  • Green Needs – Fulfilled
  • Yellow Needs – Will need attention soon
  • Red Needs – Require urgent attention

Guest Needs are also given a percentage that shows how well they are being met by your park. The higher the percentage, the better your theme park is at satisfying each guest’s needs.

How To View a Guest’s Information

Viewing guests’ information is very simple! By examining an individual guest’s info-panel, you can see specific information about each guest in your park.

  1. Select the guest you want to examine as they’re roaming your park.
  2. The Guest Info-panel will appear in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
  3. You can now browse through the needs, thoughts and preferences of the guest.

Information found in a guest’s info-panel includes but is not limited to:

  • Guest needs
  • Guest thoughts
  • Experience score
  • Mood
  • Current activity
  • Feedback and tolerances about rides and finances
  • Inventory

Did You Know?

Your Park Management menu will show you an overview of guest sentiment for everyone in your theme park.

Within this menu you will be able to view how many guests are in the park and their age demographic split. The split between adults, teens and children will give you an idea of who your park appeals to most; something to bear in mind if you want to create a kid-friendly theme park.

You can also look at your guest’s overall Experience, Mood and Thought Assessment scores.

Entertainment

Your guests will be ready to dive in and have fun as soon as they arrive at your park! Guest Entertainment levels will show you how interested they are in your attractions and rides, whether you’ve created a fantastical water park or a tropical coaster park. Just remember, no one goes to a theme park to be bored...

By building a variety of ride types from flumes to coasters and flat rides, you’ll be able to keep your guest’s Entertainment need steady. If it needs a bit of a boost, try creating some new rides to keep them coming back for more.

For more information about building rides, check out our Coaster & Ride Building Guide.

Energy

Even the biggest coaster-heads and aquatic fanatics will need some extra pep in their step after a long day on their feet (or jumping in the pool!).

While your guest's Energy levels will steadily drop over time, you can give them a boost in a couple of ways! The lower these levels get, the less time a guest will spend in your theme park, and the more likely they are to go home.

Guests will get tired quicker if there are large queues and long walks between attractions, so keep them happy by placing benches and building transport rides. You can also place vending machines or drinks vendors that serve items such as coffee, which will give guests some much-needed Energy.

Hunger

Having fun is hungry work! As your guests enjoy themselves in your theme park, their Hunger level will drop over time.

Help your guests fuel up for more excitement by placing plenty of food vendors around your park. Vending machines are a great way to provide guests with a boost quickly! You’ll have to make sure there are options to suit everyone, as some of your guests will have special dietary requirements.

Check out our Shops & Vendors guide to learn more about dietary requirements.

Did You Know?

Guests create litter after finishing food or drink. They'll throw litter into bins if they pass one, but they'll also drop the litter on the ground if they carry it for too long.

Thirst

Keeping your guests hydrated is important, and drinking pool water won’t do the trick! Your guest’s Thirst level will drop over time – be careful, this will happen quicker if the weather in your park is hot.

Once a guest starts to get thirsty, they will look for a vending machine or drinks vendor to quench their thirst, so make sure you have vending machines and drinks vendors available. You can’t have too many hydration stations!

Much like with food vendors, some guests will have specific dietary preferences such as avoiding caffeine or disliking artificial ingredients, so you’ll need to build a selection of drink options.

Check out our Shops & Vendors guide to learn more about dietary requirements.

Toilet

There’s nothing worse than queuing up for your favourite ride while you are bursting for the loo! Guests’ Toilet need will build up slowly over time and is increased by consuming drinks! Their Toilet need can be quickly improved by dashing into a nearby bathroom.

Guests will need access to bathrooms all over the park so make sure they’re not too few and far between. Place plenty of toilets in high traffic areas so guests don’t need to queue up when they’re desperate.

Nausea

Like a good rollercoaster, your guests’ Nausea levels will go up and down!

Their Nausea level is affected by how extreme a ride is, including inversions and excessive g-forces. Your coasters and flat rides will all receive Nausea, Fear and Excitement ratings when you test them.

Guests will be less interested in highly nauseous rides if they are already in the critical (red zone) of their Nausea need. When they are in the red, they have a chance of vomiting which will create more work for your janitors to clean up!

Guests can also experience Nausea from going on too many rides. The key to keeping everyone happy is having other activities and attractions around your park to allow guests to recover before jumping back into the fun.

Panic

Keep everything running swimmingly as Park Manager by making sure your guest’s Panic levels stay stable.

Panic is related to pools and their safety, as well as Fear-inducing rollercoasters. While you can’t stop guests occasionally panicking, you can ensure they feel safe by having plenty of lifeguards stationed at your water attractions. Having a variety of rides available will also help control Panic, so guests can take a break and chill out between the adrenaline rushes.

Lifeguards will jump into pools to help guests out when they see they’re in need which will stop their Panic level dropping too low.

Luxury

Everyone wants the most luxurious theme park experience possible... but without it breaking the bank! The Luxury need shows your guests desire to spend money and will influence how your guests feel about the cost of your park.

To fulfil this need, you’ll need to balance the numbers and set the prices of your vendors and attractions at an appealing level for your guests, while also covering the costs of running your theme park.

Each guest will have a unique price tolerance and list of affordable activities. It’ll be up to you to decide how to implement this as you build the ultimate theme park.

Did You Know?

Guests love to show off their souvenirs and will walk around the park proudly flaunting them.

Guest Moods

Guests’ experience can be affected by their Mood and how it changes throughout the time they spend in your park. Guests arrive Content but their Mood will fluctuate based on how well you met their Needs and how many fun things there are to do.

Guests will have Thoughts about their Moods and what is making them feel that way, which will give you an idea of what is and isn’t working within your theme park.

Learn more about these individual Moods and how they can affect your guests time in your theme park in our Keeping Guests Happy Guide.

Guest Thoughts

Guest Thoughts are a fantastic way to get feedback on how your guests feel about anything and everything in your park.

As they walk around and interact with attractions, they will generate Thoughts on vendors, rides, mascots, their Needs and even the decorative theme you’ve chosen.

Viewing Guest Thoughts

If you want to know what a specific guest is thinking, then their five most recent thoughts are viewable in their individual info-panel. These thoughts can be positive, negative or neutral observations about your park, and might have an action you can take to improve them.

However, if you want an overview of your guest’s Thoughts you can see the Top Guests Thoughts in your Park Management menu. This will let you see recurring positive and negative thoughts, e.g. “too much litter”, and you can then decide what park-wide action you’d like to take.

Guest Thoughts are an excellent way to see what improvements need to be made in your theme park. For example, if a large number of guests have noticed rain, then it might be time to start selling umbrellas!

Did You Know?

Guest experience feeds into your Park Reputation, which directly affects Park Rating. Good reviews from guests really matter!

Group Tolerances & Preferences

Some guests will come to your park in a group and this information will be stored in their guest info-panel. It will tell you what kind of group they are in e.g. Teen Family, and this will allow you to quickly access the information of other guests in their group.

The kind of group a guest is in will affect their finances and tolerances of certain aspects of the park. For example, if your guest is part of a Family with Children, their tolerance for long queues and higher prices could be much lower.

Guest Preferences

While each guest will have the same set of Needs to fulfil, they will have their own set of Preferences that will influence their experience at your amazing park.

You can view these Guest Preferences in the Group Information section of their info-panel, and they can include dietary requirement, ride tolerances and even a favourite park theme. You won’t be able to please everyone, but variety is the spice of life so make sure you have plenty for your guests to choose from!

How To Be a Guest

Jump into a guest’s shoes and view the park through their eyes or switch to 1st person camera mode to wander around your park yourself!

There are two guest view options to choose from. Either select a specific guest whose viewpoint you want to see or walk around the park with the 1st person camera mode.

To enter the 1st person camera mode:

  1. Select the camera button in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Toggle through to 1st Person Camera Mode.
  3. Move around your park as if you were a guest and explore your theme park just like they do!

To see your park from a specific guest’s viewpoint:

  1. Select the guest whose viewpoint you want to see.
  2. Below the individual guest info-panel, select the camera button.
  3. Experience the guest’s view as they explore and enjoy your theme park!

This point of view can be selected for all guests in your park and used on rides and flumes so you can experience the magic of your park too.
