Facilities
Keeping your theme park running and guests happy with the right facilities
A theme park isn’t just the thrilling rollercoasters and attractions. There’s a whole network of facilities that are necessary to keep the park running properly and in Planet Coaster 2, you’re responsible for building and maintaining these around your park.
Guest Facilities
Some facilities are designed to help keep your guests comfortable and happy as they enjoy their dream day out in your theme park. These facilities either fulfil some of your guests’ crucial Needs or allow them to access different activities in your park.
Toilets
Toilets might not be glamorous, but they are an essential part of any successful theme park.
Guests will need to head to a restroom when their Toilet need has fallen low enough, so it’s critical that you have enough bathrooms placed at regular intervals around your park.
With use, a toilet will get dirtier and dirtier until it reaches a state where guests will refuse to use it (we don’t blame them!). Janitors can clean up dirty toilets so that guests will be willing to use them again, so make sure you have enough janitors to keep all your loos spick and span.
Changing Rooms
Changing Rooms are a new facility in Planet Coaster 2 and are essential for guests to access and enjoy your water park attractions.
Guests will arrive at your park fully clothed, but they need to get changed before they can use a Pool or Flume.
Make sure you build enough Changing Rooms to handle the demand of all your guests!
Like Toilets, Changing Rooms will gradually become dirtier over time as they are used, so you’ll need your janitors to clean them regularly and keep them fit for your guests.
Path Extras
Paths around your park can be enhanced with various extras which will provide benefits to your guests.
Benches
Benches allow guests to recover their Energy need, improving their experience and letting them enjoy the park for longer.
Picnic Benches
Guests can sit down to eat at picnic benches when they have food or drink.
Bins
Guests create litter after finishing their food or drink. They’ll throw litter into bins if they pass one, but they’ll also drop the litter on the ground if they carry it for too long. Bins will fill over time and need to be emptied by Janitors.
How-To Add Path Extras
Path Extras can be added automatically as you build your path or added after the path is complete.
To add Path Extras automatically:
- Open the Path tool.
- Select the Customise Extras tab.
- Toggle which extras you’d like to place, their spacing and their placement on the path.
- Now when you build a path, the chosen extra will be placed automatically.
To add Path Extras manually:
- Open the Scenery tab.
- Select the Create Custom button.
- Filter to Path Extras.
- Select the Path Extra you want and place it anywhere as you would any other scenery.
Shops
Guests can buy Food, Drink and Souvenirs from Shops across your park. To learn more about Shops in Planet Coaster 2, visit our Shops and Vendors guide.
The Guest Services facility also sells important items for your guests, including:
- Pool Passes – enabling guests to access your pools.
- Priority Passes – enabling guests to access priority queues on your rides.
- Umbrellas – allowing guests to shelter from rain as they move around your park.
- Suncream – giving your guests protection from sunburn as they enjoy a sunny day out.
Staff Facilities
Facilities aren’t only for the guests! Your Staff will also require access to facilities across your park to complete their jobs and perform at their best.
Staff Buildings
Staff Buildings allow your staff members to take a much-deserved break and raise their morale. Learn more about Staff and Keeping Staff Happy in our other guides.
Staff Buildings can be built in three sizes: small, medium and large. The capacity of your Staff Building defines how many Staff members can have a break at the same time:
• Small Staff Building: 4 staff member capacity.
• Medium Staff Building: 8 staff member capacity.
• Large Staff Building: 16 staff member capacity.
You need to have enough Staff Buildings with capacity available during scheduled breaks for your Staff members to use them. Staff Buildings can be assigned to a specific Staff Zone when the Zone is painted – learn more about Staff Zones here.
Mechanic Workshops
Mechanics need access to a Mechanic Workshop to complete Research in your park.
By assigning a Mechanic to a Mechanic Workshop, you'll generate Research Points as long as they're there. Research Points can then be used to acquire new coasters, rides and more.
Utilities
Planet Coaster 2 introduces a number of new mechanics that directly impact the daily running of your park, creating new utilities that you need to manage around your park.
Power Facilities
Rides and Facilities need access to a steady supply of power for them to function. Creating a power network requires management of Generators, Distributors and Power Cables.
Generators
Generators (including Solar Generators!) produce the power your park needs to run correctly. Generators can be built at a cost and must be connected to Distributors by using a Power Cable to provide power. If you don’t have enough power for a new ride or facility, simply build another Generator and connect it to a Distributor in range.
Your park entrance can provide some power to help you get started.
Generators will require maintenance from a Mechanic, otherwise they will start to decline in Condition, eventually resulting in a Condition Penalty, producing less power and possibly shutting down entirely.
Distributors
Distributors power everything nearby using power suppled by your Generators. Distributors have a supply range which you can see when placing or selecting them, powering everything within range.
Power Cables
Power Cables connect your generators and distributors into a network and can be used to create multiple power grids and supplies around your park.
Water Facilities
Pools and Flumes will get dirty over time and need to be maintained if you want your guests to continue enjoying them. Just with power, you’ll need to build a network of water facilities to keep your Pools and Flumes clean.
Water Pumps
Water Pumps provide clean water to your flumes and pools to prevent them from getting dirty.
Water Pumps can be built at a cost and need to be connected to Filters by using a Water Pipe to provide water. If you don’t have enough water for a new ride or facility, simply build another pump and connect it to a filter in range.
Your park entrance can provide some water to help you get started.
Water Pumps must be maintained by an Engineer so that they can produce their maximum water output. If their condition deteriorates enough, they will begin to carry a Condition Penalty and provide less water.
Water Pumps must also be connected to your power network, as they require power to work.
Water Towers and Underground Wells can be researched as an alternative to Water Pumps, providing more clean water, but at a higher cost and power requirement.
Filters
Filters clean everything within range equally by using water from your Water Pumps. Filters have a supply range which you can see when placing or selecting them.
Water Pipes
Water Pipes connect your network of Water Pumps and Filters together and can be used to create a grid of clean water supply around your park.
