Deep Dive: Sharing the Ride
Hayo Park Managers!
As our release date edges nearer and nearer, (psst – that means you only have a few days left to pre-order and get three exciting additional rides) we’re back for a final Deep Dive into Planet Coaster 2.
This time we’re peering into the depths of Franchise Mode, with Rich Newbold, Game Director, Adam Woods, Senior Executive Producer, and Rich Hutson, Video Artist, as they pass the park and take turns building a shared theme park together.
Join us as we take the plunge!
Share the Ride
Brand-new to Planet Coaster 2, Franchise mode lets players create and share their Franchises, competing and collaborating with other players for a place on the leaderboards. When building a new Franchise, you can give it a name, apply tags (your language and gameplay style for example) and choose the Membership of the Franchise i.e. whether it is Invite Only or other players can request to join.
After choosing the settings for your Franchise, you can then select a starting location. The chosen starting location will determine the resources your starting park begins with, the difficulty of running your park and the availability of expansion options for building new theme parks in your franchise.
Adding the Details
In our Deep Dive Live, Adam uses the powerful Event Sequencer tool to add some atmosphere to the aquatic dark ride before saving his franchise park. As Franchise mode is all about collaboration and working together to create the best ever theme park, Adam makes use of the change notes after working on the shared park so Rich knows exactly what he’s working with in the latest version.
When viewing a park in the Franchise mode menu, players can see the details of what their collaborators have been working on, including change notes and full version control between different saves.
Once the park is uploaded to the server, Rich can take over the latest version of the theme park to continue adding to the aquatic themed dark ride!
As shown in the Deep Dive, Rich has almost fully decorated the inside of the dark ride, and can now upload the park to the server, passing it back to Richard and Adam in the studio. Franchise mode allows you to play to your strength because while one of your friends may be a master coaster builder, you could be a whizz with the scenery tools, and together you’ll create the perfect park!
When you start a franchise, you’ll have to pick a starting location and each of these will come with their own restrictions. Once you’ve developed your first successful park together, you can branch out and purchase new locations to grow your theme park empire.
Climb the Leaderboards
To submit your theme park for a challenge, you’ll have to put in the work! Your chosen park will need to have at least a 2-star park rating and have been open for a full in-game day. It’s all worth it though because the higher you climb up the leaderboard during a challenge, the more likely you are to get a prize for you to display in your Planet Coaster profile.
The Franchise Management menu has all the tools you’ll need to keep an eye on your park including an activity log, your members list, join requests and settings, so you can tweak your park’s tags and membership as your play style evolves.
Fun fact – Your unique franchise codes, used for quickly sharing access to your parks with friends, are made up of several Planco words!
Plus, you can always dive into previous versions of your park. So, if you’ve gone wild and created a new area in your park that just isn’t quite what you imagined, no worries! You can simply use the Version Control to roll back through other versions of your park.
Play Collaboratively in Planet Coaster 2
There we have it! In this Deep Dive we’ve shown how Franchise mode can be used to play collaboratively through asynchronous multiplayer with your friends, allowing you each to play your own way and create a shared dream theme park.
The clock is now ticking to the launch of Planet Coaster 2 and we can’t wait to see what you will create together!
